FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! The VST3 plugin works with Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio, Cubase, FL Studio, Studio One, Reaper, and any DAW supporting VST3. Logic Pro users can use the AU (Audio Unit) plugin. Studio One and Fender Studio Pro use the dedicated Instrument plugin variant for live MIDI recording - see the DAW setup guides above for the exact steps per DAW.
It depends on which AI you use. OpenAI GPT and Google Gemini require internet. For offline generation, use Local Llama via Ollama - it runs 100% locally on your machine. The 11 built-in algorithms (Markov, Shuffle, Acid, etc.) always work offline.
The trial has no time limit! Test NoteWarp as long as you want with full functionality. The only difference: a license reminder appears periodically until you purchase.
Yes! Install NoteWarp on all your personal computers - studio desktop, laptop, home and work machines. One license, unlimited personal installations.
NoteWarp sends MIDI to NoteWarp Receiver plugins on other tracks, so you can compare the same variation on different instruments or layer several at once. The exact routing depends on your DAW: most hosts add NoteWarp Receiver as a MIDI effect on an instrument track, while Studio One, Fender Studio Pro and Ableton Live on Windows use the NoteWarp Receiver Instrument variant instead. The DAW setup guides above cover each case.
Algorithms use music theory rules - they're fast, predictable, and work offline. Great for quick variations like shuffling notes or generating acid basslines.

AI generation uses language models (GPT, Gemini, Llama) that understand musical context. They can create more creative and unexpected variations, especially when you provide custom prompts describing the style you want.
NoteWarp's built-in AI Service runs on credits, and every purchase includes 10 credits to get you started. When they run out, you can buy more anytime.

Prefer your own provider? Connect your own OpenAI or Google Gemini account with your personal API key - this uses your provider's billing, not NoteWarp credits. Local LLMs (such as Llama via Ollama) also work and run free on your own machine.

Right-click the DMG file and select "Open", then right-click the installer inside and select "Open". This bypasses Gatekeeper for apps from unidentified developers. You may need to enter your admin password.
Windows: Check that C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\ivoschi contains NoteWarp Master.vst3. Rescan plugins in your DAW.

Mac: Check /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3 for VST3 or /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components for AU. In Logic, load NoteWarp Master in the Audio FX slot of a stereo track (it needs audio input, so it will not show on mono tracks or in the MIDI FX slot). The NoteWarp Receiver is the plugin that goes in the MIDI FX slot.
